Al Ettifaq has taunted Liverpool and Mohamed Salah with a ‘game over’ message

Mohamed Salah ultimately remained at Liverpool as the Saudi transfer window closed on its final day.

Mohamed Salah: I want to end my career at Liverpool

Al-Ettifaq appeared to mock Mohamed Salah on social media after the Egyptian forward did not complete a move to Saudi Arabia before the Saudi transfer window closed. Salah was a target for Al-Ittihad, who made substantial offers for his transfer but couldn’t finalize the deal in time.

In an announcement video for the signing of winger Demarai Gray from Everton, Al-Ettifaq used a retro arcade-themed post on Twitter, featuring several Premier League teams and players. The caption read, “Game over.” The video briefly focused on Liverpool’s squad, showing Salah, followed by the messages ‘NO!’ flashing on the screen alongside an image of an angry Jurgen Klopp. The video then transitioned to Everton’s squad and announced the signing of Demarai Gray.

Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid for Salah on the final day of the English transfer window, asserting that he was not for sale. However, there remains significant interest in Salah from Saudi Arabia, and good relations reportedly exist between all parties. Liverpool may consider selling Salah in the upcoming transfer window, especially if he has only 18 months left on his contract, although they might choose to resist offers until the end of the season, given his importance in their quest to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

It remains uncertain whether Salah would be open to a move to Al-Ittihad, as he previously indicated in 2021 that he could envision staying at Liverpool for the remainder of his career.
