According to reports, Borussia Dortmund is now in the bidding for Chelsea fullback Ian Maatsen

After an impressive loan stint with Burnley last season, Maatsen has decided to stay with Chelsea for the first half of this campaign.

The Dutchman helped Vincent Kompany’s Clarets earn promotion to the Premier League with 39 games in the Championship, scoring four goals and assisting on six more.

Maatsen has struggled to get consistent playing time under Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea regime, in contrast to his loan spell from previous season.

Despite having a contract that runs until June 2025, Maatsen has only started twice this season in the Premier League and has played little under 200 minutes of football.

Since he hаs hаd trоuble breаking intо the Chelseа stаrting lineup, Mааtsen hаs hinted thаt he mаy leаve the club if he is unаble tо eаrn cоnsistent plаying time.

Reports have circulated linking the player to Manchester City, the current European champions, due to the uncertainty surrounding his future with the club.

Despite summer rumors that the 21-year-old had declined the opportunity to return to Turf Moor, Burnley are reportedly interested in bringing Maatsen back.

The Bundesliga side allegedly has already begun talks with Chelsea regarding a potential January transfer.

Whether Dortmund intends to sign Maatsen permanently or on loan is still up in the air, but rumors have it that they are in talks with the Premier League team.

The German team is seeking to bolster its roster following a disappointing first half of the season. They finished with 27 points from 16 games, good enough for fifth place, and six points behind the top four.

They appear to be focusing on improving their left backfield, as they only have Ramy Bensebaini as a natural left back, even though Julian Ryerson has played there several times this season as a right footer.
