After a disappointing season, the Yankees are starting their massive offseason

It’s the beginning of a crucial offseason for the Yankees.

A disappointing season that began with high expectations of winning the World Series was capped off with a 5-2 loss to the Royals on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.

The Yankees (82-80) will watch as 12 other teams go to the postseason while they conduct an internal review in the hopes of making the playoffs again in 2019.

While Michael King’s late-season tryout was mostly successful, it ended on a disappointing note on Sunday, reducing his chances of making the rotation next season.

Against the Royals (56-106), he allowed a season-high four runs on a season-high eight hits, including a career-high three home runs.Nonetheless, King made a compelling argument to be included in the Yankees’ rotation next season by posting a 1.88 ERA across 38 13 innings in his final eight starts of the season.

Rookie catcher Austin Wells had another solid game for the Yankees, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Aaron Judge says Yankees need more ‘urgency,’ questions how team uses analytics amid disappointing season

The New York Yankees’ dismal 2023 season, in which they won at most 83 games, will end on Sunday afternoon. Even if the 2023 Yankees improved their winning streak to an amazing 31 years, they nevertheless finished with their lowest record since 1992. When the season began, they thought they had a shot at the World Series.

Judge, who is usually quiet on team matters, addressed the media before Sunday’s game to discuss the state of the Yankees and how they can improve, specifically in their use of analytics. Taken from MLB.com:

Judge has praised the analytical tools made available by the Yankees, saying, “I think the information and resources the Yankees provide are great.” I think we just need to take a second look at how we utilize them and how much importance we place on them. According to the data, the Yankees are the best team in the league. When it comes to it, I believe we are unrivaled. The key, I believe, is getting those to the players in the correct shape.

” … No, I don’t think we’re swamped at the moment. My guess is that you only need to look at the proper numbers. I worry that we’ve been focusing on the wrong candidates. Other ones that others may consider worthless need to be valued as well.

According to NJ.com, the Yankees have hired an outside firm to conduct an audit of the front office after Hal Steinbrenner suggested as much last month. The Yankees have retained the services of a mysteriоus consulting group in what amounts to an audit of the club. After the current season concludes, work can begin. However, Judge seems doubtful of this front desk audit.

According to the New York Post, on Sunday Judge stated, “With anything with numbers, you can change them and see them the way you want.” So, I’m not sure what to expect from a privately held firm. However, they will provide a new perspective and a different set of eyes.

After the season, Judge plans to meet with Steinbrenner and general manager Brian Cashman to discuss the team’s future. “Just because you get to the big leagues and get to New York, you’ve still got to improve,” Judge said, per MLB.com.

“I’ve talked mostly with Hal, more than Cash,” he told the Bergen Record. I’m excited to have meetings where Hal and Cash can both be present and where everyone can share their thoughts.

Judge, now 31, is understandably disappointed that the Yankees did not make the playoffs and remain winless in the World Series after seven full seasons under his management. The Yankees’ ceiling is getting destroyed by a better version of themselves in the playoffs. It occurred annually from 2017 until 2019.

The Yankees could need a new оutlооk and set of eyes badly. It is unclear how much will change now that Steinbrenner is ready to run it again with Cashman. Judge, however, is clearly unhappy, and he made that abundantly clear on Sunday. If the captain publicly reprimands you, you have no choice but to comply.
