When asked about summer signing Cole Palmer after Chelsea’s 4-1 comeback win against Burnley in the Premier League, boss Mauricio Pochettino had nothing but praise. Chelsea came back from a goal behind to win the game, and it was Palmer who scored the Blues’ opening goal.
After Raheem Sterling was fouled by Vitinho of Burnley in the second half, the 21-year-old product of Manchester City’s academy confidently converted the penalty. After Ameen Al-Dakhil scored an own goal for Burnley right before halftime, Chelsea went up on a goal from Palmer.
Mauricio Pochettino spoke highly of the England international, who made just his second league start for Chelsea against Burnley, in his postgame press conference, which was covered by BBC. We can see that this person is going to be a huge success.
Palmer’s intelligence, technique, and decision-making have impressed Pochettino greatly despite his young age. The management thinks Palmer has the right attitude and mix of skills to make a real impact in the company.
He astonished me when I came the day before the transfer window closed because he is a highly skilled player and he has the quality. He has the ability to connect with his teammates thanks to his keen awareness of the game’s context and the team’s changing demands. His age belies his wonderful personality, talent, and quality, all of which were on display today.
This summer, Chelsea paid Manchester City £42.5 million to acquire Cole Palmer. In the Blues’ 0-1 home loss to Nottingham Forest, he made his debut off the bench. Although Palmer did quite well, it was the seasoned Raheem Sterling who stole the stage. His cross was deflected and ultimately led to an own goal for Burnley. Palmer converted the spot kιck that resulted from a foul by Sterling.
Sterling scored for the Blues in the 65th minute to make the score 3-1. The last goal for Chelsea also involved him. The goal scored by Nicolas Jackson was set up by a pass from Connor Gallagher that originated with Sterling.
The Stamford Bridge boys have been battling since the season began, but things appear to be turning around for them. They’ve won three straight, with their most recent encounter against Burnley being their best.
Mauricio Pochettino was also very proud of his team’s promising youngsters.
I’m ecstatic because I believe the guys earned this win; we haven’t gotten what we’ve deserved all season. But I thought we put up a good show today. We have a lot of new guys and we’re still a young team, so we need to work on our chemistry and teamwork. We’re on the right track, but we need to work on our finishing and gain greater self-assurance. Three wins in the previous three games has been huge for this young team, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
