American forward Brandon Vázquez has completed a transfer from FC Cincinnati to Monterrey in Mexico. The 25-year-old signed a four-year contract with his new club, and his arrival was officially announced during a press conference.
Hailing from Chula Vista, California, Vázquez had a successful stint in Major League Soccer (MLS) with Cincinnati, scoring 32 goals in 112 regular-season appearances over four seasons. Prior to his time with Cincinnati, he played for Atlanta from 2017 to 2019. He was then selected by Nashville in the November 2019 expansion draft before being traded to Cincinnati.
In 2022, Vázquez had an impressive season, finding the back of the net 18 times in regular-season MLS matches. His performances caught the attention of U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter, but it was deemed too late to include him in the national team’s player pool for that year’s World Cup.
Vázquez has represented the United States on the international stage, earning eight caps and scoring four goals. His notable contributions include three goals during the CONCACAF Gold Cup last summer. It’s worth noting that Vázquez had the option to play for Mexico but ultimately chose to commit to the U.S. national team.
