Amid speculation that Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has discussed the player’s future plans.
Following the conclusion of his contract with French Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, Messi signed with Major League Soccer team Inter Miami for the 22–23 season.
After the American season ended, there have been rumors that Messi would sign a loan back to Barcelona, his old team, until the start of the next MLS season.
On his YouTube channel, transfer guru Romano has now provided an update regarding Messi’s future.
“He’s not going to any club on loan,” he declared. Before the new Major League Soccer season starts in February, a lot of people were expecting Messi to return to Europe in the manner of David Beckham or Thierry Henry.
“From what I’ve been informed, Leo Messi has always had the same philosophy: don’t go on loan to Barcelona or any other team; stay at Inter Miami. And what takes place next? He will represent Argentina in a game in November and then take a little break and rest in December. Messi will return for preseason play the first week of January and play again for Inter Miami in February.
“And remember, Leo Messi will be at the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris in one week,” Romano continued. We are aware of the emotions around him and this Ballon d’Or.
Messi is the frontrunner to win his ninth Ballon d’Or ahead of the ceremony later this month, following an incredible season.
The 36-year-old was instrumental in leading Argentina to victory in the World Cup in Qatar.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has made 14 appearances in all competitions since joining Inter Miami, tallying 11 goals and providing five assists.
But even with Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba joining the team, Inter Miami was not able to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
