TYC Sports have now claimed that it was a weirdly quiet night for the 22-year-old, who was overwhelmed in the middle of the park.

Argentina’s strong run of form was put to an end last night as Marcelo Bielsa kept up his stellar start to life as Uruguay manager.

His side ran out 2-0 winners, putting a lot more importance on Fernandez’s next game for his country against Brazil.

That match will be taking place in the early hours just three days before Chelsea face Newcastle United, potentially putting some doubt in Mauricio Pochettino’s mind over starting him.

He may also have had some doubt instilled in him after seeing him struggle last night on international duty.

Fernandez strange Argentina performance

TYC Sports have shared that his display was ‘strangely imprecise’, whilst only awarding him a 5/10 player rating.

They said: “Enzo Fernandez: 5. He didn’t find his place in the game. It was difficult for him to become the owner of the medium, the vertigo and intensity imposed by Bielsa never let him take over the medium. Strangely imprecise.”

The performance comes at a time when a couple of questions have begun to be asked about the midfielder’s credentials in comparison to his price tag.

However, the dip in form is not something to worry about.

Fernandez has played in so many games since he joined Chelsea back in January. He has only missed one due to injury since arriving.

Therefore, it just feels as if a bit of time needed to rest and get back to full fitness would be the perfect recipe for him to begin to perform at his very best again.
