Lionel Messi believes that during the upcoming transfer window, Inter Miami ought to try to acquire Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.
Real Madrid’s hierarchy has shifted, as Carlo Ancelotti has started Modric on the bench for four of the team’s six La Liga games this year.
The 38-year-old midfielder has pledged to put in a lot of effort to regain his spot in the starting lineup, but with the depth of the club, chances are scarce for him.
Messi therefore thinks that Inter Miami would benefit from acquiring Modric in the January transfer window.
Pedja Mijatovic, a former forward for Real Madrid, claims that Messi believes Modric would fit in well in the league.
Messi has so spoken with David Beckham, Inter Miami’s co-owner, about the possible trade.
“He [Modric] has received offers from the United States, from many teams, and from this one in particular,” Mijatovic stated in an interview with Cadena SER.
“He [Modric] already had the one in Saudi Arabia, but he wanted to stay in Madrid,” Mijatovic continued.
“Messi has expressed interest in the possibility personally.” A few days ago, while dining, Modric and Beckham met in Croatia.
Given how little playing time he has had at Real Madrid this season, Modric might find a move to Inter Miami tempting.
Young players with a lot of talent, such as Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr., Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham, are abundant at Real Madrid.
The latter, who made a high-profile transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, has blended in perfectly with the Spanish squad.
Because of this fierce battle for spots, Modric is moving lower on Ancelotti’s priority list despite having more youth at his disposal.
Nonetheless, Modric stated to the Croatian publication Sportske Novosti that he was ready to stick with the team and defend his position.
“Nobody is happy when they don’t play,” HE remarked. For me, it’s an extremely weird feeling after the career I’ve had. However, the coach made that decision for personal reasons.
“The only thing I needed in order to stay was to be considered a competitive player and not be selected to the team based only on my prior performance.”
“I am at ease just fine.” I know I have to put in a lot of effort, but eventually everything will work itself out.
Modric continued by talking about the rivals he has at Real Madrid. “These young guys are top players, which is why they are at Real,” he remarked.
“We veterans need to support them as they advance and gradually assume the starting roles at the caliber this club requires.”
