Bad news for Chelsea

Bad news for Chelsea? Cole Palmer sent home from England U21s with injury as coach admits he could miss Arsenal clash

There could be more injury woe for Chelsea after summer arrival Cole Palmer was sent home from England Under 21 duty with an injury.

  • Palmer suffered dead leg vs Serbia
  • Sent home as precaution
  • Hopes to be fit for Arsenal clash

WHAT HAPPENED? On Thursday evening, Palmer led England’s U21s to a 9-1 victory over Serbia at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. Palmer, however, was substituted early in the second half due to a quadriceps injury and is now ruled out of the Young Lions’ Monday match against Ukraine in Slovakia.

WHAT THEY SAID: “I believe Cole would be fine,” said Lee Carsley, the England U21 coach. “However, we avoid taking any chances with our players.” If there is even the slightest doubt that they will miss a weekend game, we expeditiously return them to the organizations. Cole could have remained for an additional day to gauge the situation, but we determined that it was not suitable.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Chelsea will be anxiously awaiting the outcome of Carsley’s assessment. This season, injuries have decimated the Blues’ roster, and they will be anxious to avoid additional setbacks as important players return.
