According to sources, Barcelona is interested in signing JULIAN ALVAREZ.
The Manchester City forward has had a fantastic start to the season, scoring six goals and providing five assists.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, may soon face pressure to keep the 23-year-old.
According to Sport, Barcelona is considering Julian Alvarez as a long-term successor for Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski, like Alvarez, has had a great start to the season with six goals and four assists, but with a 12-year age gap, the duo are at opposing ends of their careers.
According to Sport, both Barcelona manager Xavi and sports director and ex-Chelsea star Deco adore Alvarez, with Xavi especially pleased by his versatility and eye for goal.
The forward was an important element of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in Qatar.
City signed Alvarez from River Plate for just £14 million in January 2022, after he was awarded South American Footballer of the Year in 2021.
Alvarez is said to have a release clause worth £43.4 million (€50 million).
Despite the transfer rumors, Guardiola and City technical director Txiki Begiristain have no plans to let him go.
Alvarez is under contract with the Treble Winners until 2028.
While Alvarez is more than capable of playing as an out-and-out attacker, he has been positioned behind Erling Haaland in a slightly deeper role this season, thanks in part to Kevin de Bruyne’s injury.
Man City host Brighton at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a Champions League trip to BSC Young Boys in Switzerland and the Manchester derby.
