Warriors Have Received No Favors From Early-Season Schedule

The Warriors from Golden State have not gotten off to a great start in the 2023–24 NBA regular season. The team’s current record is 10-12, and head coach Steve Kerr is adjusting the lineup to accommodate new players.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney are all back from last year’s squad, so the core hasn’t changed. Along with the rest of the group, young Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga are still in the mix, but a lot has changed and needs to change.

Adding seasoned player Chris Paul to the mix is the most significant. Even though Paul’s function remained unclear before the season began, he was acquired from the Washingtоn Wizards in a major NBA summer transaction. Paul had to get used to sitting on the bench this season after starting every game throughout his professional career.

The outcomes have been, to put it mildly, inconsistent, with Paul currently experiencing his worst shooting season to date. He appears to be still getting used to his new job, but he has started seven of the nineteen games in which he has made an appearance.

Due in part to Green’s five-game suspension, he has gotten some starts. Gary Payton II will also not be able to play for the Warriors due to an uncertain calf ailment he sustained in late November.

When Curry was younger, his exploits would have been enough to boost the team’s status; he still plays at an MVP level. Even though players like Thompson and Wiggins have had their share of problems this season, he isn’t getting the support he usually gets from them.

There is little room for improvement in the team’s performance on the court, and Curry can only accomplish so much on his own. The difficulty of Golden State’s schedule has also been an obstacle.

Jason Timpf of Hoops Tonight on The Volume Sports noted that out of the 22 games played so far this season, the Warriors have faced only three teams with a losing record. However, the Phoenix Suns, a Western Conference foe of theirs, have faced under.500 opponents in thirteen of their twenty-two games played.

That is a terrible run of games that no team can hope to win on a sustained basis. Their three games against teams with winning records are against the San Antonio Spurs, the Detroit Pistons, and the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors’ perfect record in those games is hardly .

A final position in the NBA Play-In Tournament is up for grabs, and the Warriors are just 1.5 games behind the 10th-place Western Conference team, the New Orleans Pelicans, despite playing a less-than-ideal schedule. There will be better times ahead as the players become used to their positions on the floor and the schedule lightens up.
