Ben Chilwell will miss a lot of games moving forward, including Monday’s match against Fulham, according to Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. The injury was sustained against Brighton & Hove Albion and is alarming.
According to Chelsea’s official website, Ben Chilwell left the game late in Wednesday’s 1-0 League Cup victory over Brighton & Hove Albion due to a hamstring injury. The Chelsea manager acknowledged that the early signals do not appear encouraging.
“I believe the news is awful. According to what the doctor informed me, it’s not good, but we need to evaluate in the next days and determine how long he will miss from the team and squad. I believe the leg he damaged last season is the same one. Against Aston Villa, he played just 20 minutes and was in good health. The news is not good, and we will now be missing a player for a while, which makes us quite upset.
Chelsea is currently dealing with a plethora of ailments.Among the most significant will undoubtedly be Ben Chilwell’s fitness issue. It’s the same hamstring that Chilwell injured during the previous season, Pochettino added. Not only would losing him be devastating, but the captain, Reece James, would also be out of commission.
‘”Any team missing important players, it will affect their performance. There is only one Reece James and one Ben Chilwell. We have Malo, Marc [Cucurella] and Levi [Colwill] who can come in and play really well, but they have a different profile. That is football. It is difficult to replace top players.”
Positively, Pochettino believes Noni Madueke and Carney Chukwuemeka can make a comeback against Fulham. Chilwell has been our stand-in captain while Reece James has been out, so replacing him presents a dilemma because there aren’t many left-back choices available. This leaves the squad without another leader on the field.
Up front, Armando Broja has recently returned from an eight-month injury, while suspended striker Nicolas Jackson is not in the game. Therefore, placing undue pressure on the recently injured Broja could have unfavorable effects.
The loss of Chilwell exacerbates Pochettino’s issues at fullback. James, nevertheless, is currently getting closer to making a full recovery and is expected to begin following the October international break. Therefore, Pochettino may get some rest.
But for now, ingenuity will have to be used to patch together a defense that is severely lacking two elite starters. However, it appears that the Argentine is content to pitch a team in which Levi Colwill plays left defense to offer defensive balance and Mykhaylo Mudryk starts as a left winger.
But with their weak offensive, Chelsea’s season might be ruined by more injuries. Though Pochettino has so far kept things together, he will need to keep coming up with answers if the number of extended absences rises.
