Fraser Forster, a Celtic legend, talked candidly about changing jerseys with Lionel Messi following Parkhead’s 2-1 victory against Barcelona in 2012.
In order to advance to the Champions League round of 16, Neil Lennon’s team had to defeat the dominant La Liga team.
Forster, who spent two seasons playing for Celtic, only had positive recollections of the occasion.
He made the following statement to the Off the Shelf podcast: “I have a signed Messi shirt. Yes, based on that game. I think that’s my favorite. I have always been one of those people who doesn’t want to reflect on the past.
While engaging in something like this is enjoyable, my daily focus is more on the future. It’s hard to describe in words.
“We had played them away two weeks prior, I believe, and I had made saves in the waning moments of our 2-1 loss. However, the effort we had shown on the road definitely helped us in the home game because we knew the supporters would be there.
“Well, it was just one of those evenings where everything seemed to be going on. After making a few early saves, you’re feeling confident and eager to play more.
“You know what I mean, that team as well, if you don’t enjoy playing those games? However, the noise that evening was equally amazing. Although we ultimately won 2-0 and they scored late, it was still kind of remarkable.
It was just one of those days when everything goes according to plan and you’re in the zone. It’s incredible how the ball appears to you like a gym ball.
“It was so great that night, I don’t think I slept at all after the game.”
“I’m definitely privileged to have participated in those kinds of games, and as I’ve mentioned previously, the atmosphere and the fans are what I remember most about that game rather than that save or this save.
“It was just the moment,”
