Chelsea captain Reece James provides update on return date

Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, has offered insights into his ongoing recovery from injury, expressing his keenness to get back into action while underscoring the importance of a cautious and secure rehabilitation process, as reported by GOAL.

In recent seasons, the 23-year-old James has been plagued by injuries, most notably missing the 2022 World Cup with England and spending a significant portion of the 2022-23 season on the sidelines due to various injuries. Although he began the current season brightly, even donning the captain’s armband under manager Mauricio Pochettino, his return was cut short following an injury sustained after Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

Regarding his recovery journey, James remarked, “It’s been a challenging few weeks for me since the injury in the first game. My primary role is to play football, and I’m eager to contribute to the team. However, I cannot do so at the moment, so currently, my focus is on regaining fitness as swiftly and safely as possible.”

While expressing his desire to return to action, James emphasized the need to time his comeback thoughtfully, ensuring a complete recovery and minimizing the risk of potential setbacks later in the season.

“I’m looking forward to getting back out there soon, but it’s equally crucial to ensure that it’s the right moment, so when I do return, I’m in a position to sustain the season without encountering any issues down the road,” added James.

Chelsea’s start to the 2023-24 season has presented challenges, with disappointing results placing them 14th in the Premier League standings, having secured just one win in six league matches. The team is eager to reverse their fortunes, and Reece James’s full recovery is anticipated to provide a significant boost.

While awaiting their captain’s return, Chelsea is scheduled to face Brighton in a Carabao Cup third-round encounter on Wednesday, aiming to kickstart their campaign with a positive outcome.
