Chelsea has a ‘new Patrick Vieira’

Coach Mauricio Pochettino has countless options in the Chelsea midfield, and Lesley Ugochukwu could be the final piece of the puzzle alongside Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Ugochukwu joined Chelsea from Rennes last summer for £23.2 million. He has played 131 minutes for the Blues in the Premier League this season, including 1 starting match in the  0-0 draw with Bournemouth  in round 5. In addition, Ugochukwu also had 2 other starting matches for Chelsea in the League Cup. , and all create influence.

Even though he is only 19 years old, Ugochukwu is gradually asserting his position at Chelsea. The French midfielder’s calmness and certainty are the highlights that help him stand out in a squad full of young Blues talent. Ugochukwu is even considered Chelsea’s “new Patrick Vieira”, and the midfielder himself idolizes his former countryman.

When asked the secret to integrating so quickly, Ugochukwu replied: “Everyone is kind to me. I joined Chelsea on the US tour, and since then we have been practicing pre-season. I am very happy When I become part of this team, I’m close to the French players, and everyone else as well.

As a child, I always dreamed of playing in the best league in the world. When I was a kid, I also watched big teams like Chelsea play. It was a dream. When I heard they invited me to join the club, I didn’t hesitate a bit. Some coaches say my playing style is similar to Patrick Vieira’s. So I watched a few of his clips to learn.”

With the ability to sweep and shield Ugochukwu’s defense, Chelsea can freely attack up front, with Enzo Fernandez allowed to advance high and take on a creative role. Overall, Ugochukwu promises to have a long-term future at Chelsea.
