Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino defends his decision not to substitute Christopher Nkunku

The 26-year-old has not played a game for the west Londoners since he injured his knee in preseason, despite being a £52 million summer signing.

Even though Chelsea didn’t use all of their substitutions, he made his debut on Saturday after Pochettino declared him “available” to play.

The Blues had seventy-eight percent of the ball and fifteen shots on goal in Saturday’s match, while the visitors managed only one.In spite of this, they endured a frustrating first half until Cole Palmer scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute and Nicolas Jackson scored the game-ending second goal seven minutes later.

Even though Sheffield United didn’t pose much of a dаnger in the second half, Pochettino decided to sideline Nkunku, much to the dismay of Chelsea fans who were eager to see the France international play.

The former RB Leipzig forward is currently suffering with a slew of injuries, so Pochettino is hesitant to rush him back into action. When asked about his decision not to give Nkunku his long-awaited debut, Pochettino said to BBC Match of the Day that he did not want to take any chances with the player and wаnted to give him more time to heal.4

Following two consecutive defeats, Pochettino remarked, “I’m very pleased” with his team’s performance. It was a solid performance.

When playing against a team that uses a low block aggressively, it’s usually an effective strategy.Attempting to improve Palmer’s and Mudryk’s positioning in front of goal, we switched Palmer and Raheem Sterling positions in the second half.

No matter the outcome, I remain confident. I have complete faith in the team and its members. The following match, the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup, will make use of that.

“For me, he’s a playmaker, a player who can link the team,” he said of match hero Palmer. In addition to being an assist machine, he can score goals. Cole Palmer’s impact has been enormous since the beginning.
