Defending Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson’s claim that his detractors “don’t know football” and his admission that he finds motivation in Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah’s overcoming adversity while playing for Chelsea are both noteworthy.
In Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Sheffield United, Jackson scored his eighth goal in sixteen Premier League outings by turning in a cutback from Cole Palmer.
Since leaving Villarreal for £32 million in the summer, the striker has been criticized for his inefficient goal-scoring.
People who aren’t familiar with football are the ones to blame. The only thing I can do is keep getting more playing time and scoring goals for the club.
There were opportunities for me to score more, but I failed to do so. My previous league, La Liga, is very different from the Premier League. In an effort to change, I am adjusting.
“That is not a justification. Keeping up my increased effort and attentiveness to others is something I’m attempting to do. I attempt to better myself by listening to the coach who knows more about football than the others who don’t know anything about the sport.
Jackson has been instrumental for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Jackson says that playing as the starting striker has been tough, but that Mauricio Pochettino helped him relax by comparing him to players like De Bruyne and Salah.
He has been around many young players, so he encourages me daily and tells me to go. He has also seen individuals who were worse than me before, but they became major players, as Jackson put it.
Salah and De Bruyne were both present. They started out slow but are now major participants. He insists on telling me that they ignored those who were ignorant of the game of football.
“He knows football; they don’t know football, so I don’t listen to them.”
With their victory over Sheffield United, Chelsea were able to alleviate some of the pressure within the club and return to tenth place in the Premier League.
Despite losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday, Jackson is certain Chelsea can still salvage a little bit of the season.
“We are still believing,” he stated. The last 17 games were just completed. You need to take it slow and methodically rather than going straight from one to one hundred.

The coach is a tremendous asset to our team. We have faith in him, and he has faith in us as well, because we are all young and he has experience with young players.
“That is not an excuse but we are still working to try and understand each other on the pitch and to win games.”
