Chelsea secure big win over Burnley inspired by Sterling

Chelsea maintained their winning momentum in the Premier League with a resounding 4-1 victory over Burnley, making it two consecutive league wins for the Blues.

The match saw Raheem Sterling play a pivotal role in Chelsea’s comeback after Burnley’s 18-year-old sensation, Wilson Odobert, shocked the visitors by becoming Burnley’s youngest-ever Premier League scorer, opening the scoring just 15 minutes into the game. However, Sterling, who had been left out of the England squad for upcoming internationals, played a crucial part in Chelsea’s resurgence. He was involved in key moments on both sides of halftime, helping Chelsea maintain their impressive unbeaten record at Turf Moor.

Sterling’s cross deflected off Ameen Al Dakhil, resulting in a 42nd-minute equalizer for Chelsea. He then earned a penalty early in the second half, which was expertly converted by Cole Palmer. In the 65th minute, Sterling added a goal to his contributions, confidently slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Substitute Nicolas Jackson later sealed Chelsea’s win with the fourth goal, with Sterling once again playing a part in the build-up.

Chelsea’s victory over Burnley came on the heels of their 2-0 win against Fulham earlier in the week, marking their first back-to-back Premier League wins since March. However, while Chelsea showed improvement, there is still work to be done for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as they were arguably outplayed for much of the first half.

Burnley, coming off their first league win of the season against Luton, got off to a promising start with a surprise early lead courtesy of Odobert’s goal. The young duo of Odobert and Mike Tresor, making their first starts, displayed fearless attacking play and nearly doubled Burnley’s lead in the 22nd minute.

Chelsea initially struggled to respond but found their footing, with Sterling emerging as a key figure. His dynamic play posed a threat to Burnley’s defense, and he came close to scoring in the 37th minute. However, Sterling’s decisive moment came when his cross deflected off Al Dakhil and found the back of the net five minutes before halftime.

Just two minutes into the second half, Sterling’s explosive burst of speed drew a foul from Vitinho inside the box. Cole Palmer confidently converted the penalty, securing his first Chelsea goal.

Although Odobert tested Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, with a dipping shot, it was Chelsea who put the game to bed with a crucial third goal. Moises Caicedo’s excellent defensive work paved the way for Gallagher to find Sterling, who coolly finished, putting Chelsea in control and sealing a convincing victory.
