Liverpool may have concerns over Darwin Nunez’s fitness for their upcoming Premier League match, as Uruguay’s manager, Marcelo Bielsa, mentioned that the forward arrived for international duty with “muscle problems.”
Despite Nunez’s impressive performance against Chile, where he provided two assists, he was substituted at halftime during Uruguay’s recent World Cup qualifier against Ecuador, even though the match was tied at 1-1.
Bielsa explained in a post-match press conference that he decided to replace Nunez because the player had been “limited” due to the muscle issues he brought with him to international duty.
Nunez has played in all four of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season and earned his first start of the campaign against Aston Villa prior to the international break.
Now, Nunez will return to Liverpool, where his fitness will be assessed ahead of their upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
