CONFIRMED: Man City stopped negotiating a contract extension with De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne’s contract extension talks with Manchester City are reportedly over.

The present deal signed by Kevin De Bruyne with the current English and European champions will end in the summer of 2024/25, which is the following summer.

Numerous publications have claimed that negotiations between the two parties on a new deal have been going extremely well since the start of the summer transfer period in 2023. It is anticipated that the new contract will be revealed soon. However, following that, all news abruptly stopped and De Bruyne and Man City made no further movements, which led to the emergence of numerous rumors.

According to Matt Law, a respected transfer reporter for The Telegraph, talks between the Belgian midfielder and the Etihad Stadium squad have officially come to an end. The explanation offered is that both parties wish to wait until the 32-year-old celebrity’s rehabilitation progresses before continuing to talk.

The Daily Star further claimed that this was not the primary explanation; rather, the transaction fell through at this crucial time because a number of powerful individuals got involved and sought to “steal” De Bruyne from Pep Guardiola.

After the extensive operation the midfielder underwent just a few weeks ago, De Bruyne’s injury will take around 8 months to heal.

The Belgian midfielder, along with the other half of his “matching pair,” Erling Haaland, is currently the highest-paid player at Etihad. According to prior reports when discussions were still in progress, De Bruyne will continue to be the club’s highest-paid employee if he accepts to extend the new contract.

The ex-Genk player joined Man City in 2015 after leaving German club Wolfsburg, and he immediately learned to identify with the idea of a powerful Man City capturing the apex of European football and making history under Pep Guardiola.

Kevin De Bruyne has currently made 358 appearances for Man City, making 96 goals and 153 assists while doing so. He has contributed to The Citizens winning 5 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, and 5 League Cups, and has emerged as the key player in the Spanish coach’s tactical scheme and team composition.
