Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid and England, became the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or Kopa Trophy in 2023. The trophy honours the world’s top young player and is named after Madrid great and Ballon d’Or winner Raymond Kopa. At Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, the former Borussia Dortmund player was presented with the trophy.

At Monday’s Ballon d’Or event in Paris, the Real Madrid midfielder was named the world’s finest under-21 player and awarded the trophy for the fifth time.
Madrid and England superstar Bellingham received the award following a phenomenal year. Other nominees were the Balde brothers from Barcelona (Gavi, Pedri, and Alejandro), Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, and Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund.
After rising to prominence with Borussia Dortmund and the Three Lions, Bellingham signed an £88.5m move to Madrid this summer, finishing second to Pedri in the 2021 edition.
Bellingham has made a spectacular start to his life in Spain’s capital, scoring 13 goals in his 13 games for Los Blancos.
The former Birmingham City player has scored in all three of his Champions League outings this season. He also has ten goals in ten league games this season, three of which were hat tricks.
The Bernabeu debutant scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute as Real Madrid defeated Getafe 2-1. He finished with five goals and an assist in his first four league appearances.
As Carlo Ancelotti’s side continues to dominate La Liga, the 20-year-old scored twice in Madrid’s 2-1 comeback triumph against Barcelona at the end of October, the youngster’s first El Clasico.
Bellingham’s 25-yard screamer to tie the game against Xavi’s team and game-winning goal in the 92nd minute solidified his incredible debut for the Spanish giants.
Bellingham has also excelled for England at the international level, scoring in his World Cup debut against Iran in Qatar in 2022.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s close second-place finish to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season, Bellingham was able to secure a transfer to Spain thanks to his 14 goals and seven assists.
As he addressed the crowd, he stated, “I just wаnted to thank everyone who helped me get to this point: Birmingham City, Dortmund, and now Madrid, the national team, and most importantly my family: my mum and dad here tonight, my brother back home. All of your encouragement has been much appreciated.
He continued, “It’s been really good, I’ve been really welcomed by everyone at the club, my team-mates, the staff, everyone behind the scenes. I’ve chosen to wear No. 5 in honour of Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane.” Even though I always knew I was competent, their assistance was invaluable.It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s something I wаnted to take on as a way to honour one of my footballing heroes and use what little time we had left.
With Bernardo Silva and other players in attendance, including past winners Kylian Mbappe and Gavi, he remarked, “It’s an honour to be in front of some of the best players in the world and some of the best to have ever played the game.”For me, the greatest value of this trophy is the recognition it brings to our team. The next step, now that I have this one, is to continue to help Madrid and win championships for many years.
