Conor Gallagher and Chelsea are ready to begin contract talks

Chelsea to begin contract negotiations with resurgent Cobham graduate

The Daily Mail claims that after Conor Gallagher’s stellar start to the 2023–24 season, Chelsea is prepared to initiate talks with him about a new deal.

Earlier in the summer, the 23-year-old was rumored to be leaving Stamford Bridge. Gallagher remained at Chelsea despite being linked to teams like Tottenham Hotspur during the summer, but a move to North London never happened.

Since then, the English midfielder has made nine appearances for the team in all competitions and is a near constant in the starting lineup. Mauricio Pochettino also gave Gallagher the armband, emphasizing his increasing importance inside the Blues team.

Since Gallagher’s Stamford Bridge contract expires in 2025, Chelsea should move rapidly to arrange a new agreement for him. If he stays, we will have him committed for the foreseeable future, giving us negotiating power should he be sold.

With the club spending so much money to sign Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in recent windows, the 23-year-old’s place in the starting XI is far from guaranteed. Romeo Lavia and Carney Chukwuemeka are also expected to make a quick recovery from their injuries, thus competition for spaces in the middle of the park will increase.

Gallagher deserves credit, though, for taking a chance this season. He has satisfied the Chelsea management and has solidified his place in the team’s future ambitions.

In addition, Gareth Southgate honored the midfield player for his outstanding play by including him in the England squad for the forthcoming international break. The 23-year-old is undoubtedly having a remarkable start to the season.

Extending Gallagher’s deal makes sense for Chelsea. He is not only a talented player with a wealth of Premier League experience, but he also understands what it means to wear the Blue jersey. Still, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a Cobham native.
