The former captain of England described how, while at Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has attempted to impart his special skill set to the younger generation.
David Beckham has expressed his admiration for Lionel Messi’s ongoing transformational influence at Inter Miami. The World Cup winner seems committed to imparting his special understanding to his less experienced peers.
Messi moved to South Florida when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired, and he has since made himself at home. After making a dramatic transition, he has already netted 11 goals in 12 games and helped the squad win the League Cup.
Miami co-owner Beckham is in awe of the former Barcelona great’s willingness to include everyone in his generosity towards the young players at his new team, even with his status.
He confessed his adoration for Messi when he sat down for a conversation about the “Stick to Football” podcast with top experts and former Manchester United and England teammate Gary Neville.
“We understood that having someone like him on the team would transform it, as well as the league and the sport, but it goes beyond that. Along with Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, bringing someone in like him is the ambition for the young youngsters, both on and off the field.
“Everything has changed once Leo was brought in. It’s fantastic that the academy kids have someone who has accomplished everything, won everything, and is now teaching them.
“The other day, during an interview with a well-performing academy student, they asked him, ‘What is the best piece of advice that Leo has given you so far?'” He then said, “to walk more.” He advised “to walk more because you see more,” therefore his good deeds have already begun. It’s amazing.”
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was successfully signed by Miami thanks in large part to Beckham. He has even gone into detail about how, four years before Messi joined, he “sneaked” into a Barcelona hotel to have talks with his father.
Not only that, but other teams were also eager to sign the forward. He finally declined the opportunity to rejoin Beckham in Florida, where he would have received a massive income in Saudi Arabia, in order to stay in Barcelona as his PSG contract was about to expire.
But Messi, much to the joy of the former England captain, set his sights on a spectacular switch to the United States once the chance presented itself. The choice to finalize a trade seemed inspired.
In keeping with his image of the Argentine hero integrating into daily life, Beckham has confirmed that he is mentoring some of Inter Miami’s up-and-coming players to follow his lead with certain trade secrets.
“He drives himself to the supermarket, shops, and returns home as soon as he lands in Miami. That shocked a lot of people, but that’s him.
“He has a wonderful family; his wife and children are amazing. He is hardworking and humble.” He is a regular guy with extraordinary abilities.
