On Sunday, Draymond Green was back with the Warriors. He is getting ready to play on the floor again next week after the NBA reinstated him. The All-Star expressed some of the difficult emotions he felt during his extended ban and subsequent therapy sessions on his podcast.
In an emotional account, Green detailed an exchange he had with coach Steve Kerr at Kerr’s house while Kerr was suspended, relating a beautiful moment between the two.
“After shootaround, Coach Kerr came to see me,” Green explained. We lounged in the yard. He wept. I sobbed. A connection has been formed that has witnessed everything. From the very top to the very bottom, it has seen it all.
Kerr had a key role in Green’s return to the club, according to Green. Kerr helped the struggling forward by telling him the trutҺ.
“I want you to end this the right way,” he asked me. I hope we can wrap things up in a respectful manner. That is not something you are doing at the moment, Green added.
Draymond Green, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson—the Warriors’ core—have been through a lot together in the NBA. Kerr led those three players and their colleagues to four NBA titles and six trips to the Finals.
In all likelihood, Green will sit out this week, which includes the Golden State Warriors’ upcoming matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans. As he gets back into game form, he might play again next week.
The Warriors, who are having a rough season overall (17-19), are now in 11th place in the Western Conference. Green has the potential to improve team morale and cohesiveness if he can limit his suspensions.
For Draymond Green, retirement was an option.
After receiving his second ban of the season—an indefinite punishment—Green contemplated retiring from professional sports. A return to the NBA was persuaded by Green, according to his podcast, by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
Adam, I told you, this is too much. I can’t handle it. Everything is getting to be too much for me, so I’m going to retire. “Green said,” he said. “And Adam firmly stated, ‘You’re really acting hastily, and I will not permit you to do that.'”
According to Green, SIlver was a great help throughout their conversation and the reinstatement procedure. He insisted that Silver was only trying to help him and had no intention of punishing him with the suspension. Getting Green the assistance he required was the overarching goal of the process.
The punishment has already caused Draymond Green to miss thirteen games. Over that span, Golden State has a 7-6 record. After he put Rudy Gobert in a headlock during a November game brawl, he received a five-game suspension.
