Before the January transfer window, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must make a difficult decision over Scott McTominay’s future
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is open to trading Scott McTominay in the summer, but he won’t sell in the winter.
Before the start of the 2023-24 season, United and West Ham reportedly discussed a potential move involving the midfielder, who was also reportedly of interest to Bayern Munich.
United ultimately decided to reject West Ham’s overtures and keep the Scotland international.
The Daily Star reports that the 26-year-old has been so valuable to United this season that he has demanded the club keep him until the end of the season. Ten Hag has appeared in six games across all competitions for United this year.
Last week, McTominay scored two late goals to help the team come back from a 1-0 deficit and salvage a crucial win over Brentford. His performance off the bench may have increased his prospects of getting more playing time under Ten Hag.
The 215 games he’s played in for United since his debut in 2017 prove that the Scotland international is more than capable of holding his own at the highest level.
McTominay’s current deal with Old Trafford continues through 2025, with an additional year of club option.
