Eriksen and Hojlund return to their best during international break

Scott McTominay came close to scoring a goal against Spain, only to have it controversially disallowed. Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen, who also plies his trade at Manchester United, delivered a stellar performance for Denmark.

Eriksen played a pivotal role as the creative force behind Denmark’s 3-1 victory against Kazakhstan in the Euro qualifiers. Although Robert Skov netted twice and Jonas Wind scored the match-winning goal, Eriksen was the driving force behind virtually every significant Danish attack. He notched up one assist for Denmark’s third goal and dominated the game overall.

Throughout the match, Eriksen touched the ball 104 times, and Denmark controlled 64% of possession. His performance showcased the full spectrum of his skills, including five key passes, five pinpoint long balls, and the creation of a significant scoring opportunity. Eriksen employed long passes to switch play, utilized slide-rule passes to bypass the defense, and showcased nimble footwork to evade opponents in midfield.

Denmark’s next fixture is against San Marino, and given their strength, it wouldn’t be surprising if Eriksen is rested for that match.

Having commenced the season as a backup midfielder behind the likes of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro, Eriksen is now growing in importance to the team. Manchester United has secured several victories recently when Eriksen came off the bench, and he aims to bring his exceptional international form back to Old Trafford.

Furthermore, with Casemiro nursing an ankle injury sustained during the international break, Erik ten Hag may have an even more prominent role in mind for Eriksen.
