EURO 2024: The journey of France, Belgium, and Portugal to secure passage to Finals, waiting for England

The EURO 2024 finals, set to take place in Germany, have confirmed three teams that will advance from the group stage: France, Belgium, and Portugal.

France’s Resolute Qualification

France continued their impressive run in the EURO 2024 qualifiers with a resolute 2-1 victory during their away match against the Netherlands in Group B’s 6th round. Superstar Kylian Mbappe had a standout performance, netting a brace for the French team, while Hartman scored the sole Dutch goal.

With this win, Coach Didier Deschamps’ squad amassed an absolute 18 points from 6 Group B matches. The French team now enjoys a 9-point lead over the Netherlands and holds a superior head-to-head record. As a result, they have secured the first ticket from this group to the EURO Finals next year in Germany. Meanwhile, the Netherlands faces a challenging path to vie for the remaining group tickets.

Belgium’s Unblemished Streak Continues

Belgium secured a critical 3-2 win over the host team Austria, maintaining their undefeated record in Group F. Dodi Lukebakio (scoring twice) and Romelu Lukaku took the lead for Belgium, securing a 3-0 advantage within 58 minutes of play. Despite a late resurgence from the Austrian side with goals by Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer, they fell short.

With this result, the Belgian Team has gathered 16 points after 6 matches, putting them 10 points ahead of the third-placed Sweden (who have played only 5 matches and can potentially achieve a maximum of 9 points). This early qualification means Belgium will represent the group at Europe’s premier football festival in Germany next year. Team Austria still has a strong chance to secure the remaining direct ticket to Germany, as they hold a 7-point lead over Sweden despite playing one additional match. Austria can officially clinch the remaining ticket by winning their upcoming match against Azerbaijan on October 16.

Ronaldo’s Impact on Portugal’s Advance

The Portuguese team continued their superb form, securing a 3-2 victory against Slovakia in a crucial Group J match. Cristiano Ronaldo continued to impress, scoring twice to make a significant contribution, while Goncalo Ramos added the other goal.

This victory enabled Coach Roberto Martinez’s team to amass an absolute 21 points, putting them 10 points ahead of the third-placed Luxembourg with only 3 matches left in Group J. Portugal has now officially secured an early ticket to the EURO 2024 Finals in Germany.
