The 4-1 victory over newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday afternoon left Chelsea fans ecstatic, since it was Mauricio Pochettino’s third straight win as Chelsea manager.
The Blues got off to a terrible start, as the home team took the lead 15 minutes in thanks to a low effort from Wilson Odobert that sneaked by Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez. The Blues would press on, however, and would be rewarded for their efforts right before halftime.
The score was knotted at one when Raheem Sterling’s dazzling move down the left flank resulted in a ball into the box that was deflected by Ameen Al-Dakhil and went over James Trafford’s head. Five minutes after halftime, the England international was fouled inside the area, setting up a golden opportunity for new Blues signing and deadline day addition Cole Palmer to score his first goal for the club.
He looked Trafford in the eyes as he took the penalty kιck, and the keeper made the wrong decision, putting Chelsea up for the first time in the game. Fifteen minutes later, Sterling made it 3-1 with a rιfle shot across goal and into the bottom right corner after Conor Gallagher received the ball from an interception by Moises Caicedo in the middle of the field.
The Blues’ fourth goal was set up by the 28-year-old once again; his cross into the box was collected by Palmer, and Nicolas Jackson finished off the scoring with a fast turn and shot. Pochettino said after the game that his team will continue to ride the momentum they’ve built by not giving up until they get the outcome they wаnted.
Yes, of course [I’m getting what I want from the team], he exclaimed. I told you we were on the cusp of something big, even while we were losing to teams like Nottingham Forest and West Ham. We’re a rather young crew.
It’s not an issue of whether we signed young or veteran players, but rather that we are a cohesive unit working toward a common goal after the events of the summer. We were doing great, but everyone knows that as individuals we can always get better and bring something special to the table.
That can happen once the team has worked together and developed chemistry. We’ve had a lot of injuries, so it’s important that we start getting our guys back now so that we can compete at a higher level. Then picking an XI will be difficult, but picking teams is fun for me, so I’m hoping that day comes soon.
However, the player who most pumped up the Chelsea fans in attendance on the road was held scoreless. The summer addition of central defender Axel Disasi raised worries about his usefulness throughout the season, but he is swiftly becoming a fan favorite.
Disasi ran over in front of the away fans after Palmer’s penalty and pumped his hands in unison with the crowd. After joining his teammates in a group around Palmer, he reportedly mimicked Antonio Rudiger’s signature celebration by roaring to the crowd and wildly swinging his arms and clapping his fists.
A user proclaimed, “You can’t hate Disasi man!” Adequate Chels! another said, “Disasi is underestimated. He’ll use everything to get a goal, and then he’ll tell the crowd to cheer for the scorer.
Users “AXELLLLL!!!” and “Disasi vibes on celebrations is top,” respectively, also agreed. He completely understands what it’s like to be a Chels!,” and “Give Disasi speed, and we’ve already replaced Rudiger.”
The Frenchman has been an integral part of the Blues’ defense under Pochettino, starting all eight league games he has appeared in. After the international break at the end of the month, he’ll lead the Blues against their London rivals Arsenal looking to make it nine consecutive starts.
