Fashion takes the wheel: Haute couture is integrated into the new Rolls-Royce Dawn

With its most recent model, the Dawn, Rolls-Royce is launching a major fashion statement that takes cues from high couture. Think of it as a high-end car that represents the brand’s Spring/Summer 2017 Couture collection.

The new Dawn is genuinely Inspired by Fashion, combining the freshness of spring and summer whites with a burst of vibrant color. Designer Giles Taylor assembled a group of designers from the worlds of fashion, fine fabrics, and luxurious accessories by hand. Among them are Michelle Lusby, a leather technologist well-known for her past work at Mulberry, and Cherica Haye, a textile specialist from the Royal College of Art.

The brilliant color scheme of three hues—Mugello Red, Cobalto Blue, and Mandarin—that characterized the 2017 Spring/Summer collection was highlighted by these gifted designers on a spotless white canvas. These colors are used to great effect on the cars, where they are most prominently used as highlights on the roofs.

The cars’ interior color palettes, which combine Arctic White and Black, are broken up by accent color splashes. The car’s front and rear door pockets are embellished with exquisitely printed silks that depict an abstracted version of the Spirit of Ecstasy. Each insignia is precisely positioned at a 55-degree angle to blend in with the graceful lines of the door.
