After Lionel Messi missed his third consecutive Inter Miami game, Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino gave an update on the Argentine’s injury status.
In a Major League Soccer encounter on Saturday, the Herons managed to draw 1-1 with New York City FC, despite Messi’s absence from the matchday lineup once again. Concerns were raised that the renowned forward might not play again this season after missing his third straight Inter Miami game due to injury. However, manager Gerardo Martino gave an update on the star’s injury during the game, saying that his recovery is going quickly.
Martino stated to reporters, “That’s what I said. This is going to be a game to game. Before Wednesday’s game against Chicago, we’re going to assess him. When playing either Chicago or Cincinnati [next weekend], he will either be on the bench or off the bench. We will witness that.
“Alone on the field, he is training, but his condition is improving steadily. Time will tell if the report’s author is correct or whether what I am stating is real.”
Since Messi has been out, his team has lost all three of their games, including the U.S. Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo.
When his team plays Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer on Wednesday, it’s unclear if Messi will eventually enter the field.
