Doral, Florida, reserve police officer Shaquille O’Neal is a very towering man-about-town and a former NBA star.
The 7-foot-1-inch O’Neal will now have to pass a background check and the officer-certification exam in Florida before he can join the Doral, some 13 miles west of Miami, department. According to the Miami Herald, city spokeswoman Christina Baguer said that the three-time All-Star Game MVP’s mentаl and physical health will be evaluated by the exam.
According to Baguer, O’Neal, who is filling the doorframe, will follow the same certification process as all of the department’s officers, reserve or not.
Although “Manny Shaq-iaou” previously stated to the New York Times, “I don’t need to work out,” the tests are not anticipated to cause any issues.
The 42-year-old former NBA player has passed the test once while serving as a reserve officer in Miami Beach. He has played for several teams, including the Heat, Celtics, and Lakers.
O’Neal listed “laptop computer, binnochulars, master of surveillance” as one of his specialties in his earlier August 2004 application. According to an article in the Miami New Times from 2011, he also denied owning “savings or checking accounts, any investments, or an automobile.”
O’Neal informed the New York Times in 2011 that he was thinking about “running for undersheriff in Lake County, Fla.,” which translates to a career in law enforcement. Except for when local media outlets brought up the fact that the position is appointed rather than elected.
