After suffering injuries throughout the previous season, minor league infielder Nick Quintana of the Cincinnati Reds announced his retirement this week.
After attending the University of Arizona for his college career, Quintana, 26, was chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the second round (47th overall choice) of the 2019 draft.
Following the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season, Quintana struggled to get back on track. Following the 2021 season, the Tigers transferred Quintana to the Reds in exchange for catcher Tucker Barnhart.
Quintana was never able to play for the Reds over Class AA. In 137 plate appearances with Double-A Chattanooga in 2023, he only managed a.135 average.
Even though the Tigers did not receive their second-round pick, they may still be proud of their 2019 draft class.
Infielder Andre Lipcius, right-handed pitchers Beau Brieske and Brendan White, outfielders Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter, and infielder Andre Lipcius are the six players on the 40-man roster that were drafted in 2019.
