On Saturday, MATHEUS NUNES will make his Molineux comeback after he forced his way out of Wolves last month.
The midfield player started the team’s first two games of the season while playing for Gary O’Neil’s squad.
Matheus Nunes signed for Man City last month
The midfielder had begun the season with Wolves
As soon as Man City signed him, though, he was determined to go on.
In the summer of 2022, Wolves paid £38 million to sign Nunes from Sporting Lisbon.
They turned down City’s initial £47 million offer on August 24, this year, after Kevin De Bruyne had been injured.
Matt Hobbs, the sporting director of Wolves, reportedly advised Nunes to “remain calm and behave professionally,” according to the Telegraph.
The 25-year-old is said to have been encouraged to be patient by Wolves executives, who also explained that although the deal was feasible, it would need to be completed on their terms.
According to the source, Nunes broke his heart over the news and left Wolves’ training area an hour after seeing Hobbs, taking his boots with him.
He then skipped training and never showed up for work at Wolves again.
After City looked into making a move for Eberechi Eze, a £53 million deal was ultimately agreed upon on August 30, giving Nunes his ideal transfer.
Nunes made 41 appearances for Wolves but only managed one goal and one assist despite signing a record deal with great hoopla.
He has made four appearances for City so far, providing an assist against Nottingham Forest.
Prior to joining Wolves, the former Sporting star’s performances in Portugal had sufficiently impressed Pep Guardiola to warrant a summer transfer.
The previous season, Guardiola referred to Nunes as one of the “best players in the world” following a Champions League match between City and Sporting.
He retracted those remarks this week, adding, “Perhaps I exaggerated a little bit.” He isn’t [among the world’s finest players].
Julen Lopetegui has addressed his Wolves exit
He is an excellent player, but occasionally—perhaps I stated this after a 5-0 victory—it was really 5-0? However, he is a really good player.”
Julen Lopetegui, the former manager of Wolves, has opened up about his shocking departure from Molineux on the final day of the season.
The Athletic was told by the Spaniard that “something changed.”
“After things shifted beyond my expectations, the task at hand was to determine the course of action.”
