It’s ‘absolutely absurd’ that Sofyan Amrabat is still a problem at Old Trafford, according to Man United

Dean Jones, a transfer insider, has shed light on the ‘ludicrous scenario’ that summer signing Sofyan Amrabat finds himself in as a result of Manchester United’s worst start to a campaign in the Premier League era.

After a tumultuous start to the 2023–24 season, questions have been raised over Erik ten Hag’s future as Red Devils manager.

Manchester United fans got their hopes up after their team easily defeated Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, but those hopes quickly faded away when the two teams faced again in the Premier League, where Roy Hodgson’s side once again humiliated United.

The team from Greater Manchester has been under intense scrutiny for their play in the Champions League due to their 0-2 start (losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray) that has left them at the bottom of Group A with no points.

Manchester United are currently in 10th place after losing four of their first seven league games. Considering that making the playoffs is the bare minimum expectation for Ten Hag and his current crop, this is very alarming.

Amrabat, the club’s summer signing on a season-long deal with an option to buy, is just one of many players who have come under fire in recent weeks. Ten Hag’s ιnjury crisis on the left side of defense has forced the former Fiorentina ace into action there, diminishing his engine room qualities.

Since the start of the new season, the 26-year-old has been at fault for poor positioning and avoidable fouls due to his inability to clearly understand his role while playing outside of his comfort zone. Overall, the Premier League superpower has had a sluggish start to the season, and a turnaround in fortunes is desperately needed if they are to achieve anything out of this season.
