The New York Yankees are ready to make some significant moves this summer in an effort to address their many problems.

Unsurprisingly, New York has high standards. The Yankees have one of baseball’s greatest payrolls yet haven’t won a World Series since 2009. Despite having a team full of talented players, the Yankees only managed to win 82 games in 2023 due to poor play and several injuries.

The Yankees will be quite active throughout the offseason as they return to the drawing board. New York has many holes to fill on its roster. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic thinks they can fix their roster by adding Yoshinobu Yamamoto and star outfielder Cody Bellinger in the offseason.

“The Yankees must upgrade their offense after finishing 24th in OPS this season,” stated Kirschner. Since Jasson Domnguez will be gone for at least half of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the team needs to fill a void in center field immediately.

The Yankees will sign one of the finest pitchers in Yamamoto, and they will also add Bellinger, in accordance with our prediction that (Hal) Steinbrenner will make his biggest statement in years. After two terrible years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which led to them not tendering him a year ago, Bellinger had a breakout 2023 season.

The Yankees might benefit from the addition of either Yamamoto or Bellinger. If they were to get both, as Kirschner said, they would be right back in the conversation about making the playoffs and potentially winning the World Series. The Big Apple has plenty of cash on hand, and rumors have long connected them to both Yamamoto and Bellinger.

The likelihood of a change is hard to gauge. This is a good start for New York, according to Kirschner’s offseason projections. There is talent on the current Yankees roster. With the addition of Bellinger and Yamamoto, and with the team’s health improving as a whole, the club has a chance to make some noise in 2024.
