Cincinnati has agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with Jeimer Candelario, giving the Reds an excess of infielders that may prompt another trade.
The arrangement was verified to The Associated Press on Thursday morning by a person with knowledge of the negotiations, but they spoke anonymously because it was awaiting a physical. A club option is included in the contract, which has a potential four-year value of $60 million.
In 140 games, Candelario hit.251 with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs while playing for both the Chicago Cubs and Washington last season. In addition, the switch hitter hit 39 doubles.
Candelario, a native of New York City, turned 30 on November 24. He is a first- and third-base player. He might possibly be the designated hitter for Cincinnati in their lineup.
