Cincinnati Reds’ Legend Reportedly Drawing Interest From American League Club
First baseman Joey Votto, a free agent, is of interest to the Los Angeles Angels, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Los Angeles Angels are allegedly interested in longtime Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto when he becomes a free agency.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman provided the following information:
The Angels are among the teams interested in signing Joey Votto, according to @JonHeyman.
The Angels, who have so far had a quiet offseason, are a new contender in the Votto competition. Sentimentalists had hoped that Votto would re-sign with the Cincinnati Reds, but with their oversupply of infielders, they don’t have room for him. Since he was born in Canada, there has been speculation that the Toronto Blue Jays might sign him, but there hasn’t been much movement on that front either.
In addition, the Milwaukee Brewers were considered, although they appear to be out as well after signing Rhys Hoskins.
The Angels, on the other hand, are intriguing for several reasons. First off, they might have room at designated hitter after losing Shohei Ohtani to free agency, which could be advantageous for Votto. Additionally, Votto might serve as a mentor to first baseman Nolan Schanuel, who is a rookie.
Votto is one of the more accomplished players in the past 20 years, with a lifetime batting average of.294. He has 356 career home runs and a lifetime on-base percentage of.409. Along with his flawless resume, the slugger has won an MVP award, a Gold Glove, and six All-Star selections.
In seven different seasons, he has been the league leader in on-base percentage. He is a potential Hall of Famer who played with the Reds for 17 years.
Despite his injuries, he managed to hit.202 last season. Sadly, this only allowed him to amass 208 at-bats.
