After featuring in every game this season, with all but one as a starter, Levi Colwill was surprisingly absent from Chelsea’s matchday squad in their recent encounter against Manchester City.
The 20-year-old, who had received a call-up earlier in the week, reportedly reported to the national team as scheduled, despite rumors of a shoulder injury sustained during training on Sunday night.
However, sources suggest that both Colwill and Jude Bellingham withdrew from the squad following testing and medical checks conducted by the England medical staff.
Earlier in the week, three other players withdrew, and Cole Palmer was brought in as a replacement. England has not called up substitutes for Colwill or Bellingham, despite having already secured qualification for Euro 2024.
While it is hoped that Colwill’s issue is minor, there is confidence in the team’s solid defensive alternatives, including the likes of Benoit Badiashile, who is fit and ready for action.
