Korean star brought PSG to the top of Ligue 1

Lee Kang-in played from the start as an attacking midfielder. The two players playing right below him are 17-year-old talent Warren Zaire-Emery and defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

In the 10th minute, after Achraf Hakimi’s low cross into the penalty area, Kylian Mbappe lifted his foot to pass the ball to Lee Kang-in. Receiving the ball in an empty position, the Korean player shot into the top corner to open the score.

After the goal that broke the balance, PSG continued to press the field. The home team at Parc des Princes controlled the ball 64% and finished 14 times, nearly three times more than Montpellier’s five times. If they had finished better, Mbappe and his teammates could have doubled the gap right from the first half. In the 15th minute, Ousmane Dembele volleyed into the hands of goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte. In the 27th minute, Mbappe stood empty in the penalty area, but his volley missed the post.

Montpellier also had a number of counter-attacks. However, Khalil Fayad and Akor Adams both passed inaccurately, or shot into the hands of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

After the break, PSG picked up a better rhythm. In the 58th minute, the home team coordinated beautifully to increase the score to 2-0. After receiving the ball from Zaire-Emery, Dembele led deep into the penalty area and then pulled it back for the 17-year-old midfielder to shoot into the near corner. In the 66th minute, PSG’s right wing continued to score. After Hakimi’s low cross, midfielder Vitinha, who replaced Lee Kang-in four minutes earlier, shot into the far corner to seal a 3-0 victory. With a double assist, Hakimi gave him a gift one day before his 25th birthday.

After winning the early match in round 11, PSG took the lead in Ligue 1 with 24 points. Nice falls to second with 22 points, but can regain first place if they win against Rennes. Meanwhile, Montpellier ranked 11th.

On November 7, PSG will be a guest at Milan’s field, in round four of Group F of the Champions League. In the first leg more than a week ago, coach Luis Enrique’s team won 3-0 against Milan. They are leading Group F with six points after three matches, two points ahead of Dortmund and Newcastle. Meanwhile, Milan ranked bottom of the table with two points.
