Having perhaps the top two players in Major League Baseball in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani has set up the Los Angeles Angels for success over the past several years. The Angels have not made the playoffs since both of these players joined the team, despite the team’s outstanding skill.
Angels supporters have not been pleased by this strange development. With Ohtani a free agent and unlikely to return to the Angels, their prospects of making the playoffs with Trout and Ohtani appear to be over as well. The latest in a series of significant offseason transactions for this team occurred on Friday.
In a tweet, Alden Gonzalez confirmed the departure of Angels assistant general manager Alex Tamin. General manager Perry Minasian relied heavily on Tamin. Many supporters have expressed a desire to see Minasian leave the team this summer, so this development doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
How the Angels spend the rest of the offseason remаins to be seen. Next year, not only will the management team likely look different, but so will most of the team members. It’s tough to figure out what to do after having what many regard to be the greatest player in the game’s history and still missing the playoffs. Los Angeles has a jam-packed offseason planned.
