Lakers coach Darvin Ham denies LeBron James the game ball despite 39,000-point feat for hilarious reason

On Tuesday night, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James scored 39,000 points, making him the first player in NBA history to do so.That, plus the fact that the Lakers played like the ‘Showtime’ squad in the lopsided victory, should make James happy. However, James has no plans to display the game ball as a memento of the achievement. Lakers Nation reports that Darvin Ham, the team’s coach, denied Lakers Nation that he had given James the game ball:

What we’re seeing deserves our gratitude. He was not awarded the game ball for tonight’s match because the score is 39,000 and not 40.

Fortunately for James, he is still on pace to reach 40,000 points by the end of the season, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Future Hall of Famers surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Tuesday, and the Lakers legend wasn’t the only one. After scoring in the first quarter against the Blazers, Suns player Kevin Durant moved up to eleventh all-time in NBA scoring, passing Elvin Hayes. Moses Malone, who passed away at the conclusion of his career with 27,409 points, is the guy whose career scoring total is higher than Durant’s. Within the next month or two, Durant will most certainly overtake Malone in the season standings. In the 131-99 thrashing of the Jazz by the Lakers, James finished with 17 points, seven boards, and nine assists in only 24 minutes of play.

Obviously, we still don’t know who Darvin Ham passed the ball to if it wasn’t LeBron James.

Tomorrow night, the Lakers will travel to face the Dallas Mavericks.
