According to the media, Liverpool reportedly eye on Johan Bakayoko in the final week of the summer transfer window.
Dutch football journalist Rik Elfrink suggests that Liverpool, along with Napoli, are interested in Bakayoko, who has also attracted Burnley’s attention. The 20-year-old winger is rumored to have a price tag in the range of €25 million to €30 million (£21.5 million to £25.7 million).
Elfrink shared on Twitter, “Johan Bakayoko can go to Burnley. PSV does not want to do this now and can also wait for interest from Liverpool and Napoli, for example. What to do with a higher bid of roughly 25-30 million?”
Bakayoko has been impressive for PSV this season, contributing four assists in just three Champions League qualifying matches, including both goals against Rangers in their recent play-off first leg.
He possesses strong skills in ball progression, ranking in the top 1% of his positional peers outside of Europe’s major leagues for progressive carries per 90 (7.22). Additionally, he is in the top 5% for successful take-ons (3.07) and touches in the opposition penalty area (5.86) per game.
If Liverpool pursues Bakayoko in the coming days, it could resemble their signing of Gakpo. Gakpo, also from PSV, joined Liverpool relatively quickly, unlike long-drawn-out transfer sagas. Bakayoko, as a promising young talent, could inject excitement into Anfield and offer valuable depth on the right side of attack, although other areas of the squad may take precedence in the closing days of the transfer window.
With surprises often occurring during this time of year, it remains to be seen if any concrete developments will unfold before the Friday night deadline.
