Liverpool’s prospects brighten as Ibrahima Konate returns to training, providing relief for coach Jurgen Klopp’s injury concerns ahead of their match against Wolves this Saturday.
The Mirror reports that Konate has successfully completed training during the international break, signaling his recovery from a recent thigh injury that sidelined him for two Premier League fixtures.
Klopp had faced a challenging situation in Liverpool’s previous match due to Virgil van Dijk’s red card and Konate’s injury, resulting in an unconventional central defensive pairing of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Additionally, Trent Alexander-Arnold had suffered a hamstring injury and is unlikely to return to first-team action soon.
While Alexander-Arnold continues his rehabilitation away from the main squad, Konate’s return provides a welcome solution for Klopp. He may consider including the Frenchman in the lineup against Wolves, with Gomez likely filling in for Alexander-Arnold and Matip set to start in Van Dijk’s absence.
The upcoming match against Wolves will mark the conclusion of Van Dijk’s suspension, as the FA’s independent commission extended his ban. This means Van Dijk might have to wait until Liverpool’s Europa League clash with LASK the following Thursday to potentially feature alongside Konate again after his injury.
Klopp will undoubtedly be delighted to have Konate back in contention for the Wolves match, making his team selection more straightforward. The 24-year-old, described by Matip as ‘amazing,’ will also be eager to regain match fitness and find his best form after a steady start to the season.
