Jamie O’Hara – a football manager, believes that Joao Palhinha’s talent isn’t far behind players like Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, and he sees him thriving at a club like Liverpool.
The 28-year-old had an outstanding debut season in the Premier League with Fulham last year, contributing significantly to Marco Silva’s team securing a top-ten finish. The summer saw Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice transfer for over £100 million each, sparking discussions about whether Joao Palhinha is in a similar category.
Jamie O’Hara believes that if a player of Joao Palhinha’s caliber were to join a team like Liverpool, he would not only hold his own but excel, as he expressed to Sky Sports News.
With Palhinha’s eye-catching performances last season, there’s speculation about him potentially leaving before the upcoming deadline. Jurgen Klopp’s squad still requires reinforcements, raising the question of whether they will pursue Palhinha’s signature.
If the Portugal international were to move, O’Hara suggests his price tag would likely approach £100 million, although he notes that the player’s age could affect the valuation.
“I think Palhinha, for me, he is up there,” O’Hara commented. “We talk about Caicedo going for £100 million. I think Palhinha isn’t far off that kind of valuation. He’s approaching £100 million as a player.
“I think he is absolutely fantastic. He possesses a complete skill set. Fulham is fortunate to have him on their team.
Regarding Liverpool’s potential expenditure on Palhinha, O’Hara acknowledges, “I think he isn’t far off a £100 million valuation. The factor working against him is that he is 28 years old. So, he’s not a young prospect like Declan Rice, whose age would potentially lower the price.
“But in terms of his on-field contributions, he is not far behind the likes of Caicedo or Declan Rice in terms of talent. He has that ability. He can excel in a top team contending for a title. He is brilliant.”
The addition of Palhinha would be a significant boost for Klopp’s Liverpool. Their recent transfer activity, or lack thereof, has raised questions, especially considering the departure of key players. The team has experienced a decline, making it crucial to bring in additional quality. Palhinha, if signed, would be a fitting addition to Klopp’s managerial style and could thrive in Liverpool’s setup.
