Last night (November 17), Everton suffered a huge penalty of 10 points deduction in the Premier League for violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) laws. This caused Everton to drop from 13th place with 14 points to the penultimate position with only 4 points on the Premier League rankings.
Everton currently faces huge compensation demands from Leeds, Leicester, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Burnley, as these teams are considering suing Everton. Before this development, Man City and Chelsea trembled and lived in fear because they were also accused of violating FFP.
Legal experts have warned Pep Guardiola’s Man City, who were hit with 115 charges of FFP violations in January, and Chelsea are being investigated over transfers under Roman Abramovich’s reign. Experts say that if charged, both Man City and Chelsea could be relegated from the Premier League.
Leading sports lawyer and former financial advisor to Man City, Stefan Borson, stated that if Pep Guardiola’s team is found guilty, any punishment could lead to relegation.
Stefan Borson said: “Everton’s 10 point deduction is harsh because they simply violated Financial Fair Play. But it reinforces that sanctions against Man City and now Chelsea will likely see them relegated.”
