When Marcus Rashford was replaced against Crystal Palace, Manchester United supporters responded in an unexpected manner.
When United was chasing the game in the 77th minute of play, Erik ten Hag hooked Rashford.
Though many saw Rashford as the team’s talisman, Red Devils supporters were more incensed that the substitute had not arrived earlier.
In United’s midweek League Cup matchup with the Eagles, whom they had defeated 3-0, Rashford had had a challenging game.
However, they were unable to pull off the same ruse this time around as Palace won 1-0 to exit Old Trafford with three points.
Normally, you would expect the Old Trafford fans to jeer the England star’s substitution, but instead they were clearly uninterested.
Online supporters felt the same way.
One fan commented, “I’ve forgotten how often Ashford is playing in games because he disappears too easily.”
Someone someone typed, “That Rashford sub is only 70 minutes overdue.”
“Took him 77mins to sub Rashford, poor from the gaffer he needs to react quicker,” commented a third.
“I respect Ten Hag for making that sub on Rashford, but it should have been earlier,” said a different commenter.
Sadly, United lost to a motivated Sam Johnstone and suffered the consequences of yet another contentious handball call.
