If Chelsea decides to pursue Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, Manchester City may present a challenge.
Chelsea has been connected to Joao Palhinha, and according to TEAMtalk, the Blues are still interested in signing him.
The Sun claims that Man City is also considering a possible £60 million deal to get the 28-year-old.
Summertime saw Chelsea make changes to their midfield, adding Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. Mauricio Pochettino does not appear to be entirely content with his alternatives, though.
In January, the Blues may try to bolster their attack in addition to midfield. The rumors about Victor Osimhen of Napoli and his possible transfer to Stamford Bridge are unabated.
Manchester City enters the Joao Palhinha race
If Chelsea is truly interested in the Portugal international, then City’s entry into the hunt for Palhinha would be bad news.
There would most likely only be one victor if the two teams engaged in a straight shootout.
Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League and is currently without access to any European competition, while City won the triple last season and are currently in the Champions League. It is quite difficult to see him turning down the former.
In any event, it is obvious that Palhinha will eventually move out of Craven Cottage.
Having made the most tackles in the tournament the previous season, he has demonstrated his excellence as a Premier League football player (FBref).
Under Marco Silva, Fulham has played incredibly well in the top tier, but eventually Palhinha will be snapped up by one of the stronger clubs in the division or a major European power like Bayern Munich. Chelsea’s competitors in west London will likely have to concede that he appears capable of going to the next level at this point.
