Manchester United and Barcelona compete for ‘Super Frenkie’

Manchester United and Barcelona are reportedly in competition to secure the services of 18-year-old Belgian sensation Arthur Vermeeren, who has drawn comparisons to Spanish legend Andrés Iniesta. United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is said to be highly interested in the young playmaker, whom he admires.

Despite having already strengthened their midfield with the signings of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat in the current season, Manchester United has had a less than ideal start, suffering three defeats in their first six matches. In light of their performance, reports from Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, suggest that Ten Hag is considering Vermeeren as a potential addition to rejuvenate the squad.

Vermeeren made his first-team debut for Royal Antwerp last year and has been a regular presence in the squad this season. According to the report, representatives from Old Trafford have initiated contact with the teenager’s camp to explore the possibility of a transfer. However, they face stiff competition from LaLiga giants Barcelona, who are also keen on acquiring the young star.

Sven Kums, a midfielder from Gent, has commented on the similarities between Vermeeren and Barcelona legend Iniesta. He expressed his belief that Vermeeren has the potential to go much further in his career than he did, praising the young player’s footballing attributes. Kums noted Vermeeren’s ability to read the game, choose positions wisely, and make intelligent decisions on the field.

Kums added that Vermeeren’s performances at such a young age are remarkable and described him as not only a very good but also a beautiful footballer. While he acknowledged the rumors regarding interest from top clubs, he emphasized that it would not surprise him if Vermeeren attracted attention from big teams given his talent and style of play.
