Similar to the previous season, Manchester United has had difficulty scoring goals in the Premier League even with the addition of a new striker.
Rasmus Hojlund has yet to score in the league, however, he did score once in the Champions League matchup against Bayern Munich.
At the start of the season, United tried Marcus Rashford up front by himself, but that strategy did not succeed. It is obvious that the left is where the Mancunian flourishes.
Rashford’s decision-making has drawn criticism.
This season, the top scorer from last season has come under heavy fire for his generally selfish style of play and for failing to pass when surrounded by rival defenders.
The 20-year-old is now the England star’s target man, unlike in past seasons, as he is making lung-busting runs to be at the end of driven balls across the box.
When asked the same question, even boss Erik ten Hag responded that although the two’s relationship would take time to grow, their work had already begun.
Additionally, Rashford noted that he is gradually growing accustomed to the Dane being the striker in an interview with Premier League Productions (via United’s official website), but they are working on it in training.
To be honest, I’m really looking forward to it. Last year, there were moments when we launched counterattacks and all we saw were the shirts of other people; often, Bruno Fernandes, who was arriving later, was the only target of the cutback.
“However, you have to realize that this year the dynamics have changed, so between [just] me and him, we have talked to each other and done a little bit of work off the field—probably without the coaching staff even knowing about it.”
Rashford-Ramus putting in extra hours
It makes sense that the players will need some time to get to know one another and discover each other’s playing styles and talents in order to improve the squad as a whole.
Rashford correctly noted that he had already assisted Hojlund for his lone goal and had the opportunity to grab another had the Brighton goal not been disallowed.
All I want is for him to swiftly grasp my game and for him to grasp his as well. It’s going well so far; obviously, we had the unfortunate one against Brighton when it was disallowed, but we also had a nice one where we collaborated for a goal in the next game, so I’m thrilled for him.
“I am excited about it, excited for the future, and I am also excited that we have so many games coming up because we have so many opportunities to show who we are. I’m sure it is a relationship that will help both players.”
In an effort to move the team back up the table, United supporters will be expecting to witness their forwards work together and steal goals.
