Mauricio Pochettino says two Chelsea players are responsible for the team’s encouraging recent form

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Chelsea, has heaped praise on stand-in captain Conor Gallagher and new recruit Cole Palmer for reviving the club’s fortunes before the international break.

After Chelsea’s worst season in Premier League history, Mauricio Pochettino was hired as the club’s manager. They’ve lost to West Ham, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, among others, and are presently 11th in the league.

Academy product Gallagher has taken over as captain in Reece James’ absence due to injury, and newcomer Palmer has made a strong impression in his first few appearances at Stamford Bridge. The team has won three games in a row in all competitions. Despite just having three Premier League starts under his belt, Chelsea splashed out an initial £42.5m on Palmer as a surprise summer purchase.

Palmer has broken into the starting lineup for Chelsea as of late, and he helped set up the game-winning goal in their 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton in his debut. The 21-year-old then started for Chelsea in their victories over Fulham and Burnley, where he contributed a goal and an assist in a 4-1 triumph at Turf Moor.

Pochettino has been effusive in his praise of Palmer, saying, “Cole Palmer is a good link player and links with all his teammates.” Since he is not predictable, we have decided to start him on the right side of the field.

“Football is a game where you need to be unpredictable and he has the capacity to do this.” Pochettino has also praised Gallagher for his performances in the middle of the field, where he lines up alongside fellow newcomers Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

“Conor is a player who can run a lot, and this is massive,” Pochettino said. He’s quite versatile and can play No. 8, No. 10, or No. 6 depending on the situation. He’s an all-around threat who can defend, attack, and score goals (like he did for Raheem Sterling against Burnley) with equal ease. We couldn’t be happier with him.

Pochettino is optimistic that some of Chelsea’s numerous injured players will be ready for their next game against Arsenal on October 21 despite the fact that the international break has come at a time when Chelsea are enjoying a run of successes. “We have many players injured, key players who cannot compete and train with us,” said the coach.

That is crucial, you know. When missing even just two players, such as Rodri and [Kevin] De Bruyne, Manchester City looks and plays very differently. We’re missing several important players who would boost our progress as a team.

When all of our players are well again, we’ll be in great shape to challenge for the championship. We still need to have faith that we may achieve greatness in spite of our current situation.
